Gor Mahia star Shariff Musa shares the heartbreaking story behind the outstanding title-winning season

On the pitch he was the epitome of joy.

Blessed with blistering pace and electrifying creativity, Gor Mahia winger Shariff Musa spent the 2025/26 league season tormenting defenders, scoring an impressive seven goals and six assists and dancing in front of thousands of enthusiastic K’Ogalo supporters.

But behind the celebratory post-match dances and a breakthrough campaign that earned him a league title, an outright individual award and a Harambee Stars nomination, Musa was fighting a devastating, silent battle.

In a deeply emotional social media post today, the winger revealed that he has felt a deep sadness for most of the season: the sudden, tragic loss of his brother Salim Musa, with whom he had made a sacred pact.

According to Musa, the impetus for his tireless form this season came from a desperate attempt to save his brother’s life before the season had even begun.

“Before the season started, I had a bet with my brother Salim,” Musa shared. “It sounded simple. He said to me, ‘Bring me the league winner’s medal and I’ll give up my addiction.’ I took up the challenge because I wanted to see the best version of my brother.”

Tragically, the pact took a devastating turn before the domestic league even began. As Gor Mahia prepared for a friendly against Tanzania’s Simba SC, Salim’s grueling seven-month battle came to an end in his hospital bed.

“A funny thing happened, my brother had already won his bet,” Musa wrote. “He quit his addiction. He kept his word, right?! But he kept his word in death.”

Facing a defeat that would break most athletes, Musa made a shattering decision. Without the luxury of being able to properly process his grief, he buried his brother and immediately returned to the football field that same day.

“I had a choice: let his death break me or embrace the pain and make him proud,” the winger revealed. “I buried him, and the same day I buried him, I went back to play. I didn’t have time to mourn my brother because I had a debt to pay. But I mourned for him every time I stepped on the field.”

Musa’s magnificent, mournful performances did not go unnoticed. While he fought through the pain to secure a record-breaking league title for Gor Mahia, he claimed major individual honors at the club’s final gala when he was voted Fan’s Player of the Season and Most Improved Player by the K’Ogalo faithful.

This season he became the first winner of the revived Sportpesa League monthly awards after enjoying a rapid success in October 2025, and secured a place in the official Sportpesa League Team of the Week seven times over the course of the season.

With his brother not there to witness the fulfillment of the promise, Musa admits that he is left with a void that silverware cannot possibly fill.

I got him his medal. “I don’t know how my performances have been this season because the only person who can honestly tell me is lying in the ground,” Musa wrote in a heartbreaking conclusion.

The only thing I know is that I kept my word. Salim Musa, goodbye my brother, goodbye my friend, goodbye my fan. Rest champ.”

Musa officially moved to Gor Mahia from fellow Sportpesa League side Bidco United during the mid-season transfer window in January 2024.

He made an immediate impact, helping K’Ogalo win the 2023/24 League Cup shortly after his arrival before making his big breakthrough in the 2025/26 season.

But behind the celebratory post-match dances and a breakthrough campaign that earned him a league title, an outright individual award and a Harambee Stars nomination, Musa was fighting a devastating, silent battle.

PakarPBN

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.

In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.

The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
